Bhagavad Gita’s Karma Yoga: Part 2

This is a continuation of the previous blog about Karma as described in Bhagavad Gita. As I have said, Karma really should mean “work: that which is done for energy translation to maintain the immovable/movable in reality “. The dimension of translation of energy should be across kAla rather than across space and time. As we read the chapter 3 of Karma Yoga, we can find further evidences for this. Further, I find that verses need to be translated together, rather than individually as is typically done. Otherwise, the continuity of what is said is lost. So, I will translate the related verses together. Unlike typical translations, we can find the continuity when we translate these verse as describing work and its origins.

All three verses translate together to:

Regularly done work gives rise to other work due to previous work. Further, the form of path also is not accomplished without work. That which knows the “cause work” binding other work in this world, that “cause work” is released with associated procedure. Simultaneously, that which knows, propagates creation by the afore mentioned owner of propagation. without which, procreation of objects in the sought path, almost comes to an end accompanied by tendency to be removed.

It is strange how things fall into place when you fix a certain word. The minute you fix “karma” as “work”, “yajna” starts taking on a totally different meaning. Typical translation of “yajna” is “sacrifice”. But, with work it makes no sense. But, if we split this word as “ya” + “jna” = “that which” + “knows”, now, it starts making some sense and the verses takes on a totally different meaning which is inline with “karma” or “work”.

The next set of words that take on different meaning are words such as “kuru” which given that “karma” is work, takes on various forms related to work. Work can be either a verb or a noun. While karma is a noun, words such as kuru starts taking on the various verb forms of work, such as “work done” or “doing work”

Now, looking at this collected set of verses, we find that it is telling us that there is an hierarchy of work. There is a “root work” which is the cause which then propagates by a certain procedure that other related works. and all these related works together form a path.

These three verses translate to:

Energy moves to become restrained, without which: that energy which has become almost guided, mutually becomes best guided if it is primarily intertwined. Because of the sought moving to experience, held energies depending on guidance goes to the state of becoming, that which knows, for? that which is given. That which experiences in the direction opposite to that given, that which knows, knows the rules of penetration of existence free from all imperfect guidances. That experiences other imperfect due to the ultimate fifth self.

Here, we see that if we read the verses by themselves, we cannot get the correct notion of “without which” that is specified in the 11th verse. It is only the 13th verse that gives the consequence where it says that when energy is not restrained, the experiences of the fifth self is not going to occur. If, this is connected to what is present in the Surya Siddanta, the “fifth dimension” can be considered as the analytical dimension where, the raw data from other 4 dimensions are combined together to create a conclusion.

Taking these 4 verses, we get the translation:

Feeding back the become to the becoming, feeds the ability of precipitation, who has understood the become, by knowing the precipitation, collection of work comes into existence. The origin of creation of work is penetration of produced imperishable creation. That established, knows that all paths are regularly created. Also, the spinning cycle here does not imply that life begins inadvertently with suitable power. That which lives rests in several eager self, perhaps, the unexcited self that penetrates also the thought and if placid self exists undisturbed, work is not known.

These 4 verses translate to:

Neither these that are made cause nor definitely are that which is made are these, not also definitely existing seeking of all become cause diminishing of this penetration. From that continuously connected work, advances work. Detached from previous, work becomes subsequently immovable, because of which, the natural state of these works is un-lasting and produced mercilessly. Further in this manner held together into a world beholding “curve induced becoming”, which if immovable primarily approaches the end of produced energies. That when measured, results in end of produced world.

To summarise, it starts with describing work, then the associated energy and how it goes towards becoming experience. Subsequently talks about how work originates and what happens if that continuity is lost. Reading it all together below:

Regularly done work gives rise to other work due to previous work. Further, the form of path also is not accomplished without work. That which knows the “cause work” binding other work in this world, that “cause work” is released with associated procedure.
